Colours: brown
Name of artist: Nathalie Hurtault
Type of clay: Stoneware from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye locally extracted in our quarry.
Region: La Puisaye in Burgundy.
This is a region where clay is present at a shallow depth and has been extracted since at least the Middle Ages (the first signs of the presence of potters in the region date back to that period).
Process: the bowls are first thrown on the wheel with a smooth finish then left to dry slowly. When the clay becomes firm enough (but not too dry!), each bowl is sculpted, so as to give them their rough and unique aspect. Then they are left to dry completely this time, before being glazed with our own colours, prepared in our workshop. They are fired up to 1280°C for 24 hours, which gives the clay its ability to retain cold or heat, its sturdiness and its watertightness (even where the clay is not glazed). Each chawan has its own design, sculpture and mix of glazes so that it is absolutely unique.
