It is currently the ‘bestseller’ in our matcha bar: the Iced Matcha Latte, the cold version of the Matcha Latte. But, how do you make a nice Iced Matcha Latte at home?
Put 1 tsp Premium Matcha (or 2x bamboo spoons) in a bowl. This is approx. 1 gram of Matcha.
Add a little (1 tbsp) of cold water here.
Use the Matcha bamboo brush when making a smooth paste, so that there are no more lumps. You can also place the Matcha in the bowl with a small kitchen strainer instead.
Now add about 100 ml of cold water and whisk it with the bamboo brush (‘chasen’ in Japanese) for 20 seconds. in a W and 4 movement, until a nice foam layer comes up.
Put the milk in an (electric) milk frother (eg Aeroccino from Nespresso).
Meanwhile, make ice cubes in a glass and pour the Matcha on it.
Now pour the frothed milk at the Matcha.
If you like a little sweet, you can add some honey or maple syrup.
Tip: Draw nice shapes in the Matcha Latte with a skewer or metal stick. For example hearts, like you can see on the photo below.
Health benefits
Matcha Latte is a good and healthy coffee substitute, because Matcha contains a lot of theine and provides an energy boost during the day (about 6-8 hours). Theine works more gradually than caffeine, so you do not have an up and 30 minutes down again, as is the case with caffeine. In addition, Matcha is very rich in antioxidants (catechin EGCg), vitamins and minerals. It is a real superfood (or actually super-tea) with many health benefits! You can drink it purely, but also with milk.
